Para Site is delighted to feature special contributions by two participating artists in our current exhibition A beast, a god, and a line, during a brunch held at our home in Quarry Bay. Lantian Xie will perform Speech Acts for two screenings. An episodic lecture-performance in two parts — with an interruption in between — it consists of speech acts written to accompany two films Perfumed Nightmare (1977) by Kidlat Tahimik and Arabikkatha (2007) by Lal Jose. Staged as a conversation between two moviegoers, each episode imagines the situation of a film screening as a condition and location to produce annotations, rumours, gossips, riffs, and plots. The performance features Amiya Nagpal and Michelle Wong.

Following Xie’s performance, Ming Wong will be playing records and serving Bloody Mary’s.
