In this edition of PS Paid Studio Visits, we’ll be visiting artist Bouie Choi at her solo exhibition Borrowed Space_Borrowed Time at Grotto Fine Arts.
Amidst urban imagery, Choi intends to depict how the object attempts to collide with negative space, and uses painting as a process to reconnect the gap between the real and the unreal in an indescribable space and time. After Receiving her MA at Chelsea College of Art and Design in 2012, she started participating in community art and cross-media collaborations. Never stopping her pursuit in painting, Choi is concerned with the traces of environment and social values left with individuals. Her works play with absurdity from different contexts, finding them carriers and bringing them new meanings – from texts, objects to 2-dimensional images. Choi also participates in community art programmes, and has formed an art collective with other Hong Kong artists, named CHT. Art Project.
