Artist-in-Residence: Eisa Jocson

Eisa’s residency follows on from her 2014 Hong Kong premiere of Macho Dancer as part of the exhibition Ten Thousand Rooms of Yearning. Sex in Hong Kong at Para Site. This will be the first of two research trips to Hong Kong to investigate the diaspora of labour and representations of performance in the service industry. This phase of Eisa’s research residency is generously supported by Spring Workshop.

Eisa Jocson is a contemporary choreographer and dancer from the Philippines. Trained as a visual artist and with a background in ballet, she won her first pole-dancing competition in Manila in 2010, and started pole ‘tagging’ and other public interventions in New York and various cities. She then trained in macho dancing and premiered Macho Dancer in Spring 2013. Together with her creation Death of the Pole Dancer (2011) and Host (2014- ongoing), Jocson has since toured numerous European festivals.
