Open Call: Workshops for Emerging Arts Professionals 2020

Deadline: Sunday January 5, 2020
Workshops Duration: May 30 – June 7, 2020
Workshops Location: Hong Kong

Para Site is pleased to announce the 2020 Workshops for Emerging Arts Professionals, alongside Para Site’s annual International Conference, which will take place on 4-6 June, 2020. In its sixth successive edition, we will work with a group of emerging curators, writers, critics, researchers, and other arts professionals from Hong Kong and abroad, through a series of closed-door workshops, lectures, and site-visits of artist studios, institutions, and communities.

This 9-day intensive programme is designed to provide learning and thinking opportunities, mediated by reputed speakers from Para Site’s International Conference as well as by art practitioners from across Hong Kong’s diverse institutional landscape. The programme provides a laboratory for experimentation, posing fundamental questions and ideas that challenge various models of curatorial practice. It will also offer opportunities for networking and enhance the development of systems intending to nurture the participants’ careers.

Para Site will offer a limited number of scholarships to support the participation of outstanding young professionals.

APPLICATION MATERIALS

  • A statement of purpose (max. 300 words), explaining the reasons of applying to the Workshops and your goals from this programme.

  • A full Curriculum Vitae, including biographic information and relevant working experience.

  • One academic or professional reference letter.

  • A proposal (max. 800 words) for a curatorial or research project, including, as applicable: the concept, list of artists, images of artworks, and the institutional/geographical context for the project. This can be a purely hypothetical project, but it should be original, realistic, and considerate of the nominated context.

    • Original conceptualisation and phrasing will be favoured over curatorial jargon and over-reliance on academic quotation, unless a specific thinker’s ideas form the core of the proposal
