We would like to invite both members from the migrant workers community and the general public to join us for a day of exchange through food sharing and hands-on workshops to explore and experience a scenic rural neighborhood in Hong Kong. Artist Lo Lai Lai and Jenny Li (One of the founders of Sangwoongoon and Sangwood Seeds Lab) will lead a day workshop at Sangwood Seeds Lab in Shek Kong (Yuen Long district, in the northwest of New Territories) to introduce the initiatives of Sangwood Seeds Lab, which focuses on the importance of local agricultural education and the preservation of the rural farming environment to raise awareness of our interconnected relationship with nature. We will enjoy a potluck-style lunch together in which we invite each participant to share homemade food related to their cultures and personal background, to share and savor the diverse flavors brought together. Participants will also learn about local produce at Sangwood Seeds Lab and make use of local produce to make various Calendula-based products such as lip balm and salve, which can be taken home as a souvenir or gift. As we immerse ourselves in the beauties of the natural landscape, we will engage in discussions and share our experiences and perspectives on nature, food, and land use. Join us now by filling out the form on Eventbrite (follow the link above)!
Transportation: A complimentary shuttle bus service will be provided for RSVP’d attendees, departing from Mei Foo MTR station at 10am to Sangwood Seeds Lab and returning to Mei Foo MTR station at around 6pm. Please arrange your own transportation to and from Mei Foo MTR station.
Each participant is kindly required to bring homemade dishes representing their culture or local cuisine to share with others. Please fill out the form to confirm the dish you will be bringing on the day and specify any dietary restrictions you may have.
As a friendly reminder, there will be a total of 20 participants so we encourage you to prepare a moderate amount of food to share. When planning your dish, we would like to invite you to consider why you chose to share it with us and how the ingredients/recipe reflect your culture, family traditions, and background.
This is an outdoor activity, we recommend participants to wear casual attire and closed-toe shoes for their comfort and protection. Please also bring a hat, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, and plenty of water.
Please note that the schedule is subject to change and adjustments based on logistical considerations and weather conditions. For more information or any other enquiries, please contact us at info@para-site.art.
