Para Site Art Space is proud to present Social Club, an exhibition of our friends’ works at its Sheung Wan premise.
Artists often work in solitude. But some are drawn together by similar artistic directions, exhibition opportunities, or simply friendship. Art society social clubs are common throughout history. ‘Make friends through art’ has been a strong component of these societies and their development.
Since the role of the exhibition curator became conspicuous, the exhibitions organized by these art societies have been regarded as amateur. In art salons such as Bloomsbury or Der Blaue Reiter (‘The Blue Rider’), however, strong friendships fostered a lively creative environment and artistic exchange without diminishing creative earnestness or the quality of work.
Social Club does not rely on any grand theme or heavy curatorial statement. Rather, it will be an open exhibition of works from Para Site friends and members, with attention focused on the individual artist. Over thirty artists will show works of their own interests and manners.
