Para Site is pleased to announce a new international residency opportunity for an early-career artist residing in Hong Kong. As part of our thirtieth year anniversary programmes, Para Site has initiated a new residency programme with HANGAR, Lisbon. As an Artistic Research Centre located in Lisbon, HANGAR shares a similar history with Para Site as an independent space founded by artists and curators, with a deep commitment to artistic research. It is a place for experimentation, offering shared working studio and living accommodation, facilitating exchanges with residents from diverse geographical and cultural backgrounds. In addition, Lisbon shares an interesting synergy with areas that neighbour Hong Kong, including Macau, making it a good site from which to research further on shared colonial histories, and to familiarise the participant with a growing vibrant cultural ecosystem rooted in Europe.
This programme takes place in partnership with Triangle Network. With its London hub headquartered at Gasworks, Triangle Network is an international network of arts organisations that promotes dialogue, exchange of ideas and innovation within the contemporary visual arts. Its worldwide residency partners include Gasworks (UK), HANGAR (Portugal), Khoj (Delhi), Triangle Arts Association (New York), Nairobi Contemporary Arts Institute (Kenya) and URRA (Argentina). Envisioned as a long-term commitment from both Para Site and Triangle Network to broaden cultural exchange opportunities for early-career artists based in Hong Kong through leveraging Triangle Network’s global reach, Triangle Network and Para Site will pilot this international residency programme in 2026, with HANGAR being the inaugural Triangle Network partner organisation offering this residency opportunity for eligible artists.
