Hong Kong Soil by TMML STUDIO

In English
Registration and deposit required here
Age: 6 or above

This workshop guides an experience of working with raw earth, to learn how small aggregates of the ground come together in different ways to give form to shared stories and individual identities.

Participants step momentarily into a cycle of soil use and re-use, holding their clay works as solid expressions to be exhibited and then recycled back into the pile from where they came.

The team at TMML Studio will guide participants through the hands-on processing of excavated soil, 2D drawing/calligraphy with soil pigments, and interpreting their drawings in 3D with extruded clays.

About

TMML STUDIO is a Hong Kong based design practice that focuses on cultivating openness and curiosity in people by giving form to object, material and space. With projects spanning art, design, architecture and recycling at a variety of scales, the studio seeks to align material advancement with the genuine needs and well-being of people.

Since 2021, TMML STUDIO started ‘Hong Kong Soil’, an endeavour that researches and repurposes discarded materials from construction into raw materials for ceramics and rammed earth making. Hong Kong Soil creates functional and non-functional ceramics and earth objects for homes and public spaces, and organises workshops for the public to advocate meaningful reuse of finite resources.
